Safe Driving in Snow and Ice

Your Jeep was made to take you in the rain, sleet, snow and mud but it's a good idea to be well acquainted with the safe driving tips in cold weather conditions.

Ultimately, the best thing to do when the weather is bad is not to drive at all. If you do need to go out, try to plan your errands after the snow plows and salt trucks have cleared the roads to as best of a condition as possible. Also, allow extra time for arriving at appointments as the going can be a little slower.

Although your Jeep is better equipped than most cars to handle icy roads, be sure to use standard rules like decreasing your speed and leaving yourself plenty of room to stop. A good rule of thumb is to leave three times the space between yourself other vehicles to ensure everyone has safe stopping room. Brake gently when you need to, use low gears for extra traction and always drive with your headlights on.

To keep the interior of your Jeep clean, use slush mats. A slush mat is a little more grooved than a regular automobile floor mat and it will capture mud, water and slush and keep it from getting all over the interior of your jeep and safely collected on the rubber matting.

Driving in cold weather conditions can be stressful. Use these tips and be sure and take it slow and easy and you'll arrive at your destination safely.
